Dermaplaning is performed on the face, under the chin, and on the sides of the neck. It is quick and painless.
After properly cleansing and prepping the skin, our aesthetician (or nurse) holds the skin taut and uses a 10-gauge scalpel held at a 45-degree angle to gently exfoliate the skin by scraping off the top layer of dead cells. This procedure also removes vellus hair (commonly referred to as peach fuzz).
It categorically does not make your hair grow back more fiercely!
Think about it…. if it did make your hair grow back thicker or stronger, then we would be dermaplaning the balding heads of men all over the universe!
Use only gentle, non-active cleansers and skin care products for a minimum of 7 days post treatment.
Avoid sun exposure as much as possible for a minimum of 3 days post treatment.
If you must be in the sun, apply SPF 30 – 50, reapply often, wear a wide brimmed hat, and seek shade when possible.
Our best advice is to wear SPF 50 every day for the rest of your life if you want anti-aging and skin protection from skin cancers.
- Avoid excessive heat 3 days post treatment, e.g cardiovascular workouts, steam rooms or saunas, etc.
- Avoid chlorine for 24 hours.
- Avoid facial waxing for 7 days.
- Do not pick, scratch, or aggressively rub the treated area.
- No scrubs, polishers, or aggressive brushes should be used for 7 days.
You may experience slight skin shedding for the first few days. A slight windburn sensation and/or blotchiness are normal too.
How often should I have Dermaplaning Facials?
For best results, Dermaplaning treatments are recommended once every 4-6 weeks.
